Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has reached a verbal agreement with Valencia forward and Spanish international David Villa (27).Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain and the player's agent José Luis Tamargo would have been in permanent contact over the last months. Villa, whose contract with Valencia expires in 2014, would like to make another step forward in his career by joining Barcelona.
Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would like Villa a lot and would already have put the player on top of his wish list last summer, when Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o seemed to be on his way out.
If Guardiola gives his final approval, which is likely to happen, Barcelona would start negotiating with Valencia. Although Villa has a buyout clause of 100 million euro°, the financial problems of Valencia will most probably force the club to sell some players next summer. With presidential elections coming up in Madrid, Begiristain would like to speed up the negotiations to avoid a bid race.
