British tabloid The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Barcelona defensive midfielder and Ivorian international Yaya Touré (26) (read more here).Amid growing concern over the fitness of Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves after two major knee operations last season, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would have asked about Touré, who could be allowed to leave Barcelona if Liverpool defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano is signed by Barcelona this summer.

Replacing Toure by mascherano would be a downgrade. Toure can also play centre-back and attacking midfielder and is just made for our DM position.
