i think maxwell is way better than abidal,i think he will defend better too.abidal should switch to CB ,he would fit there better,especially in barcelona. we can also sign filipe and move abidal to cb position and have filipe/maxwell and abidal if needed for lb.
Certainly for the games against "little teams" who only think about defending, Maxwell will be first choice. He can bring so much more in attack compared to Abidal.
Abidal is very shaky at times. Maxwell is more like Alves. I think it will be a case of Maxwell and Alves rotating on opposite flanks. If Alves plays, Maxwell doesnt, and vice versa. Against Chelsea type teams, I guess both will be played to add an extra dimension to attack, and with a busbreaking forward like Ibra, god help the bus parkers.
Guardiola should do like Raijkard when he had Silvinho and Gio. ex. 1st match Gio 2nd match Silvio 3rd match Gio and 4th match Silvio and so on, this will be the best situation.
No CB for Abidal. He'll give alot of fouls in and near penalty box. Too risky a proposition.
I have yet to see Maxwell strength tho I think playing both him and Alves too forward could risk leaving gaps in our defences especially against counter-attacks used alot by EPL teams.
I guess leave Abidal when defensive cover is needed and play Maxwell and Alves when desperate for goals.
come on guys. now you rising that maxwell to the stars. he isnt player of confidence. i ve seen him las two seasons at inter . he is very good in attack, but he is weak in defence. he make much more mistakes then abidal. i think barca dont need more attacking defenders. we have alves. pique like to go in attack too. i think that maxwell will play only against weak teams that play defense. or he will be in first 11 in case that abidal get injury.

Most teams play defense against us. With one striker (or even none), so why have then two centre-backs, a DM and a left-back that stay behind? I really think Maxwell will play more than Abidal. Playing counter-attack is playing defensively, in my opinion. It's just about assessing how dangerous they can be when breaking out.
Never put Abidal at center back again. Last season I'm pretty sure that he said that he felt more comfortable at center, but had terrible games. I haven't seen Maxwell play, so I'm not sure how good a defender he is. But from what I hear he is more like Alves than Silvinho or Puyol. Playing Maxwell and Alves at the same time would make for great attacking football, but it would give me a heart-attack every time the opposition would counter.
Then again I trust Pep to do whatever is right for the team.
