Brazilian second division club América has on Thursday officially announced that former Barcelona striker and Brazilian international Romário (43) has agreed to come out of retirement to play some games with the club.
In a reaction, Romario told journalist that his father was a supporter of the club and would have wanted his son to join them at some point in his career: "I'm preparing to play and should be registered next week. I will feature in one or two official matches to realise my father's dream."
Romarío is currently sports director of América. Last year, the Brazilian striker announced his retirement as active football player after his contract with Brazilian first division club Vasco da Gama had expired. Arriving from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 1993, Romário played one and a half season for Barcelona. Due to disciplinary problems, "O Baixinho" (the little one) left for Flamengo in January of the year 1995. Romário won the Spanish league title with Barcelona in 1994, becoming that same season the top goalscorer in the Liga with 30 goals. In the same year, he won the Spanish Super Cup with the team.In 1994, Romário won the World Cup in the United States with the Brazilian national team and was awarded the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball. Spanish club Racing Santander has yesterday officially announced the transfer of former Barcelona winger Luis García (31).
The Spanish player, whose contract with Atlético Madrid expired this summer, will sign a two-year contract with the Spanish first division club after the meidcal tests.
Luis García came through the Barcelona youth ranks. After having played with Barcelona B for two years, he went out on loan to Valladolid, Toledo, Tenerife and again Valladolid, before being sold to Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2002. One year later, Barcelona used the buy back option and signed Luis García for the first team. After one year at the club, the Catalan left winger left for Liverpool.

Former Barcelona manager and sports director Sir Bobby Robson passed away today at the age of 76. A statement issued on behalf of his family reads: "It is with great sadness that it has been announced today that Sir Bobby Robson has lost his long and courageous battle with cancer. He died very peacefully this morning at his home in County Durham with his wife and family beside him.Sir Bobby's funeral will be private and for family members only. A thanksgiving service in celebration of Sir Bobby's life will be held at a later date for his many friends and colleagues. Lady Robson and the family would very much appreciate it if their privacy could be respected at this difficult time."
Robson joined Barcelona in the summer of 1996, arriving from Portuguese club Porto. After one year as head coach, he was replaced by Louis van Gaal and became sports director. In 1998, he left Barcelona for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. As manager of Barcelona, Sir Bobby Robson won the Spanish super cup in 1996, the Spanish cup in 1997 and the European Cup Winner's cup in 1997.

Former Barcelona winger, Santiago "Santi" Ezquerro (32), has become a free agent after Pamplona-based Club Atlético Osasuna officially announced an agreement releasing him from his contract.
He was originally committed to the Club until June 30, 2011, with an option to extend for another season. Ezquerro is expected to receive a 400,000 euro compensation from the deal.
Ezquerro joined Osasuna on a free transfer in 2008 after his three season stint with FC Barcelona. He made twelve appearances for the Club, scoring one goal, and was Osasuna's highest paid player.
Asked about the contract termination, Club president Pacho Izco, said: "It was something that he brought up on his own but we have reached a satisfactory agreement with him. Ezquerro said he did not want to be here as a burden and as such, we managed to reach a resolution." Ezquerro is yet to comment on the deal and reveal what his future plans are.Read more:

Former Barcelona forward and Spanish international Juan Antonio Pizzi (41), has been officially appointed as manager of Chilean first division club Santiago Morning.
The Argentine-born manager, who had been away from coaching since he left Peruvian club Universidad San Martín in 2006, signed a two-year deal with the Chilean team. Juan Antonio Pizzi joined Barcelona in 1996, arriving from Tenerife. After two seasons, he left for Argentinian club River Plate. Barcelona has earlier today officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona left back defender as the new coach of Barcelona's Juvenil B youth team. It will be the first coaching of the Catalan.
Sergi Barjuán joined Barcelona as a youth player in the 1988. He joined the first team during the 1993-1994 season. After nine season, he left in the summer of 2002 for Atlético Madrid.
With Barcelona, Sergi won three Spanish leagues in 1994, 1998 and 1999, two Spanish cups in 1997 and 1998, two Spanish super cups in 1994 and 1996, one European Cup winner's cup in 1997 and one European super cup in 1997.

Italian club Inter Milan has yesterday officially announced the transfer of former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Motta (26).
The Brazilian defensive midfielder, who leaves his current club Genoa after one season, has signed a four-year contract with the Italian champions.
It's not clear how much Inter Milan has paid for Motta, although the club states that Inter youth players Francesco Bolzoni, Leonardo Bonucci and Riccardo Meggiorini are joining Genoa on a permanent basis as part of the deal. Genoa has officially confirmed the deal.
Thiago Motta came through the Barcelona youth ranks and joined the first team during the 2001-2002 season. In the summer of 2007, the defensive midfielder left for Atlético Madrid. With Barcelona, Motta won two Spanish leagues in 2005 and 2006, two Spanish super cups in 2005 and 2006 and one Champions League in 2006.

South-African first division club Mamelodi Sundowns has earlier today officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov (43) as their new manager.
Iranian first division club Abu Moslem had last month announced the appointment of Stoichkov (43) but the Bulgarian denied the news a few weeks later (read more here). Stoichkov, who will soon be presented at a press conference, has been away from coaching since he resigned as Celta Vigo coach in October 2007.
Hristo Stoichkov joined Barcelona in the summer of 1990, arriving from CSKA Sofia. Five years later, he moved to Italian club Parma but came back the next season. In 1998, he returned to CSKA Sofia.
With Barcelona, Stoichkov won five Spanish leagues in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1998, two Spanish cups in 1990 and 1998, four Spanish super cups in 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1996, one Champions League in 1992, one European Cup winner's cup in 1997 and two European super cups in 1992 and 1997. Portuguese club Benfica has officially announced the transfer of former Barcelona forward Javier Saviola (27).
The Argentinian striker will sign a three-year contract with an option for another year at Benfica, who will pay 5 million euro for the transfer. Real Madrid has offically confirmed the transfer.
Javier Saviola joined Barcelona in the summer of 2001, arriving from Argentinian club River Plate. During the 2004-2005 season, he played on loan at Monaco, the next season at Sevilla. He left Barcelona on a free transfer in 2007 and joined Real Madrid.

Former Barcelona midfielder and assistant coach Johan Neeskens (57) has been appointed as assistant coach of Galatasaray.
Neeskens, whose contract as head coach of Holland B expired this summer (read more here), becomes the assistant of new Galatasaray manager Frank Rijkaard.
Arriving from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam in 1974, Johan Neeskens played five season for Barcelona. In 1979, the popular Dutch international left for New York Kosmos.
After the 2006 World Cup, Neeskens quitted as assistant coach of the Australian national team and returned to Barcelona to become the first assistant coach of Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard. He left the club in the summer of 2008.
With Barcelona, Neeskens won one Spanish cup in 1978 and one European Cup Winners' Cup in 1979 as a player and one Spanish super cup in 2006 as assistant coach. Read more:

Former Barcelona forward Jordi Cruijff (35) has signed earlier this week a three-year deal with Maltese club Valletta, where he will act both as player and as assistant coach.
Cruijff had been without a club since his contract at Ukrainian club Metalurh Donetsk expired at the end of last year.
Jordi Cruijff came through Barcelona's youth ranks and played two seasons for the first team, that was then coached by his father Johan Cruijff. In the summer of 1996, he left for English Premier League club Manchester United. With Barcelona, Cruijff won one Spanish league title in 1994 and one Spanish super cup in 1994.

Turkish club Galatasaray has today officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard (46) as their new manager.
Rijkaard had been away from coaching since he left Barcelona in the summer of 2008 and is expected to sign later today a two-year deal with Galatasaray.
After being dismissed by Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam in 2002, Rijkaard arrived in Barcelona in the summer of 2003. Rijkaard stayed five years at the club before leaving last year. With Barcelona, Frank Rijkaard won two Spanish leagues in 2005 and 2006, two Spanish super cups in 2005 and 2006 and one Champions League in 2006.

Spanish club Villarreal has yesterday officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona forward Ernesto Valverde (45) as their new manager.
Valverde's one year-contract with Greek club Olympiacos had previously not be renewed despite the club having won the league title and the cup.
Arriving in 1988 from city rivals Espanyol, Ernesto Valverde played two seasons for Barcelona. Due to injury problems, Valverde could not play himself into the first team. In 1990 he left Barcelona for Athletic Bilbao. With Barcelona, Ernest Valverde won one European Cup Winners' cup in 1989 and one Spanish cup in 1990.

Former Barcelona player Luis Figo (36) has played last weekend with Inter Milan his last official game as professional football player.
Figo joined the Italian champions in 2005 and had announced his retirement earlier last month.
Luis Figo played five seasons for Barcelona, arriving in 1995 from Portuguese club Sporting, after he first signed a contract with both Juventus and Parma, and leaving in the summer of 2000 for Spanish club Real Madrid.

Dutch club AZ Alkmaar has earlier this week officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona player Ronald Koeman (46) as their new manager.
Koeman signed a two-year deal with the Dutch champions. Former Barcelona assistant coach Tony Bruins Slot also joins the technical staff of AZ. In april of last year, Koeman had been dismissed as manager of Valencia (read more here).
Ronald Koeman played six seasons for Barcelona, arriving in 1989 from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven and leaving in the summer of 1995 for Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam. From the summer of 1998 until the year 2000, he was the assistant coach of Barcelona manager Louis van Gaal.
With Barcelona, Koeman won four consecutive Spanish league titles from 1991 to 1994, a Spanish cup in 1990, three Spanish Super Cups in 1991, 1992 and 1994, one European Super Cup in 1992 and one Champions Leauge in 1992, when he became a Barcelona legend scoring the winning free kick goal that gave Barcelona it's first European Champions Cup. As assistant, he won one league title in 1999.

German club Bayern Munich has yesterday officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona manager Louis van Gaal (57) as their new manager.
Van Gaal has signed a two-year deal with Bayern Munich and leaves AZ Alkmaar after four years and after winning this season's Dutch league title.
Louis van Gaal joined Barcelona in the summer of 1997, arriving from Ajax Amsterdam and replacing Sir Bobby Robson. After three season he left the club but he returned in the summer of 2002. In January of the followng year, he was dismissed and replaced by Radomir Antic.

Former Barcelona player Michael Laudrup (44) has been dismissed yesterday as manager of Spartak Moscow, the club he joined in September last year (read more here).
A statement on the official website of the Russian club reads as follows: "Michael Laudrup has been dismissed as FC Spartak Moscow coach on April 15 night due to unsatisfactory performance and poor results.
Michael Laudrup’s discharge has been initiated by General Director Valery Karpin. This suggestion found approval of the board of directors. Erik Larsen, assistant to Michael Laudrup, has also been dismissed from his duties."
Arriving from Italian club Juventus in the summer of 1989, Laudrup played five seasons for Barcelona. In a controversial move, the attacking midfielder joined Real Madrid in 1994.

Austrian first division club Linz has yesterday officially announced the appointment of former Barcelona player Hans Krankl (56) as their new manager until the end of the season.
Krankl has been away from coaching since he was dismissed as Austrian national team coach in September 2005.
Hans Krankl joined Barcelona in the summer of 1978, arriving from Rapid Wien. Three years later, and after going on loan with First Vienna in 1980, he returned to Rapid Wien.
With Barcelona, Krankl won one Spanish cup in 1981 and one European cup winner’s cup in 1979. In the 1978-1979 season he became the Liga top goalscorer with 29 goals.

English Premier League club Tottenham has yesterday officially announced the transfer of Tottenham attacker and Mexican international Giovani dos Santos (19) to Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season. The English second division club has officially confirmed the deal.
The statement on the official website of Tottenham reads: "Giovani Dos Santos has joined Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season. The Mexican international was a summer signing from Barcelona and has gone on to make 12 appearances in our colours. The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the Club against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Cup last month."
Giovani dos Santos came through the Barcelona youth ranks and joined the first team squad in the summer of 2007. One year later, he left for Tottenham.Read more:
