Silva prefers to stay

12:26 Posted by Editor
Asked about the situation of Valencia left winger and Spanish international David Silva (22), Silva's agent Julio Llorente has said to journalists yesterday that the player wants to stay but suggested that Silva would like to see his contract renewed:

"He wants to stay with Valencia. We'll see what will happen but his first option is to stay here. If there would appear other options, we will look at them but at his moment he's very comfortable at this club.

If in the next days something would come up that could change this plan, we'll analyze it and make a decision. David wants to stay and he has a contract. A lot of clubs have shown interest for him, so he wants Valencia to take that into account and show him what he's worth to them, which is normal.

It's logical that other clubs are looking at him since he has played two very good seasons, he played very well at the European championship, which of course leads to offers. But we haven't really looked at them because Valencia has his transfer rights and if they don't say anything to us, he's a Valencia player for the next five years."

Valencia regional radio station LP Punto Radio claims that Valencia has received formal offers from Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and AS Roma but that the club has rejected to start talks and made clear that they don't want to sell the left winger.

Valencia president Vicente Soriano confirmed the wish of the club to journalists: "We're gonna tell his agents that we want Silva to stay with us. I don't think there will be any problems but we're going to talk. Let's see what the result will be." Today a new meeting between the club and the player's agents was scheduled.

Asked about the rumours linking Silva with a move to Barcelona (read more here), Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain has admitted to journalists today that Silva could be an option: "It's a good and interesting player, but not only for us, but also for foreign teams. There are no negotiations ongoing cause Valencia is still thinking about its position and no talks have been started."
