Barca Seeks New Homes For Unwanted Players

Sport reports that FC Barcelona would like to loan out players that do not fit into coach Pep Guardiola's plans, specifically defender Henrique and winger Jeffren Suarez.

On paper, Henrique looks a player who could find a role on Barcelona's bench, having played regularly and successfully at while on loan at Bayer Leverkusen last year.

However, he has not been able to meet Guardiola's expectations during the preseason and has been surpassed on the depth chart by cantera products Marc Muniesa and Andreu Fontes.

As such, the coach would like the Henrique to go out on loan to a Spanish club in order that the team can follow his progress closely. Sport claims that both Zaragoza and Racing have expressed interest.

The situation with Jeffren Suarez is more murky. While the young winger would likely not make the Barca roster based on his performance, the coaches are bound by a lack of viable options. As such, Guardiola must rely more on Pedro and, to a lesser extent, Jeffren. If Barca is able to let him leave on loan, Racing and Real Sociedad would be likely destinations.

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that today a decision could be made on the future of Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22).

Marcos Malaquias, the agent of the Brazilian defender, would be in Barcelona to discuss a loan deal of Henrique.

Santander local football website Euroracing claims that Barcelona has offered Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) to several Spanish clubs, one of them being Racing Santander.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo reports that Racing might be interested in the Brazilian player as they are still looking to strenghten the squad with a centre-back. A decision could be made in the coming days.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain seemed to confirm that Henrique won't stay with the squad this season: "If Henrique leaves, that's also because youth players like Fontàs and Muniesa have done better during the pre-season."

Asked about the situation of Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) (read more here), Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has suggested at a press conference that the player will not stay with the squad this season:

"I would compare his situation with that of Martín Cáceres. He's a young footballer. Defensively, it's a very interesting player, he's very agressive when marking an opponent.

But being a central defender at Barça asks a lot of things from you and at this moment, I prefer players who are more adapted to Barça's way of playing like Muniesa or Fontàs. A young player like him needs to have playing time and that's why we will have to decide in the next fifteen days if it's better for his evolution that he will again leave on loan, this time to a club that is closer and where we can follow his performances better."

Catalan sports paper El 9 Esportiu claims that Zaragoza has sounded out Barcelona about a loan of Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) (read more here).

Zaragoza manager Marcelino would nevertheless not be impressed by the Brazilian player because of his lack of experience, which leads to Henrique only being the last option of a long target list.

Barcelona would therefore be looking at alternative options. Bayer Leverkusen, the club Henrique played for last season, had asked at the end of last season about a renewal of the loan, but after Barcelona initially rejected the request, the German club has now already strengthened their centre-back and is not interested anymore.

Aragon regional newspaper El Periódico de Aragón confirms that Henrique most probably will not join Zaragoza because Marcelino isn't convinced by the qualities of the central defender. The paper claims that Henrique could return to Brazil this summer.

Madrid sports tabloid Marca claims that Barcelona is looking for a club for Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22).

Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola reportedly thinks the Brazilian player doesn't have the qualities needed to play at Barcelona.

The club would therefore have started looking for an exit for Henrique, on loan or permanently. Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam would have shown interest in the centre-back, who played last season on loan with German club Bayer Leverkusen, and would want to sign the player on loan.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) isn't thinking about leaving Barcelona.

The Brazilian player would be aware that he will have to improve but still has the hope to convince Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola of his qualities.

Henrique wouldn't have problems if he would have to start the season as last centre-back option, even behind youth players Muniesa and Fontàs.

Barcelona nevertheless would plan to let Henrique leave on loan for a second year, although the player hasn't yet been officially informed. No one from the technical staff would have informed Henrique about the decision and Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain didn't yet contact the player's agents Marcos and Naor Malaquías on the issue. It is believed Barcelona could be waiting to see what happens during the last weeks of the transfer market.

Arsenal would only accept Bojan in Cesc deal

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Arsenal would only be willing to include Barcelona forward and Spanish youth international Bojan Krkic (18) in a possible deal on Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22).

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger would like to count on the Catalan striker, who is nevertheless untouchable for Barcelona manager Guardiola.

Barcelona would have offered Arsenal a transfer fee of 40 million euros°, which was rejected by the English Premier League club, as was the possible inclusion in the deal of Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (30) and Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22).

Although Cesc reportedly supports the efforts of Barcelona trying to sign him and his agent Darren Dein is acting as go-between between the two clubs, the player wouldn't be willing to force his exit. Cesc plans to talk with Wenger in the coming days to discuss the situation, but it is unlikely that Arsenal will change their position. A transfer this summer seems almost impossible.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola isn't convinced by the performances of Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22).

The game against Los Angeles Galaxy would have been the last straw. Guardiola reportedly told his defenders to avoid at any cost faults near the penalty area. But Henrique caused a free kick that was converted by Beckham.

The next game, against Seattle Sounders, Henrique played as right back defender. And in the last match of the tour in the United States against Chivas Guadalajara, Henrique didn't take part. With Guardiola now counting more on Barcelona Atlètic central defenders Marc Muniesa and Andreu Fontàs, the future of Henrique at Barcelona is believed to be uncertain.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona has recently be holding intensified talks with Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22).

Cesc would think that his cycle at Arsenal has come to end. The Catalan midfielder reportedly feels ready for a new challenge and would be delighted about the chance to return to Barcelona, the club he left six years ago. The new talks could lead Barcelona to launch a new offensive before the end of the transfer window.

Barcelona's board could prefer to sign Cesc. Board members would have doubts on spending money on another central defender and think it might be better to strenghten the midfield, with Cesc then being the preferred option. Arsenal is believed to be interested in Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (30) and a loan of Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22), and Barcelona could include both players in the deal to lower the transfer fee.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) could again leave on loan this season (read more here).

Barcelona still believes in the Brazilian defender but with Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola having asked for another centre-back, Henrique could get very little playing time.

After a loan to German club Bayer Leverkusen last season, Barcelona could therefore decide to loan Henrique out for another season, this time to a Spanish first division club. Zaragoza would be one of the clubs that have shown the most interest.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo looks ahead to the last month of the summer transfer window.

Central defender
With the transfer of Shakhtar Donetsk defender and Ukrainian international Dmytro Chygrynskiy (22) having become unlikely because of the player's participation in a Champions league qualifying game, Barcelona could decide not to sign another centre-back and to count on Henrique and youth players Muniesa or Fontàs.

Midfielder
Signing another midfielder seems at this moment the priority of the club, with Liverpool defensive midfielder and Argentine international Javier Mascherano (25) and Arsenal midfielder and Spanish international Cesc Fàbregas (22) on top of the list. A player with a back-up profile like Poulsen is not an option.

Left winger
With a transfer of main target Franck Ribéry not being possible, a transfer of a left winger is not a priority because the alternatives don't convince. Valencia left wing attacker and Spanish international Juan Mata (21) could be an option if he cannot reach a renewal agreement with Valencia this summer. Other rumoured options like Di María, Robinho or Arshavin seem far off at this moment. Homegrown players Pedro, Jeffren or Gai are expected to get their chances.

Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) shares his final experiences in London.

"Today we played our last match before returning to Barcelona. We beat Al-Ahly 4-1. I was able to play in the starting line-up, once again with Muniesa at centre back. From the very first minute I was less nervous and more comfortable and I think that helped me play better. They put a bit of pressure on us in the first half but in general we were much better and we deserved to win by a wide margin.

We arrive back in Barcelona this afternoon [Sunday] and we’ve got the day off on Monday, which is always good after an intense start to the preseason. On Tuesday morning we’re all back in training together and so I’ll get the chance to meet the rest of my team-mates, such as Puyol, Piqué, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Alves, as well as Ibrahimovic.

But this doesn’t stop here and on Wednesday we’re off again to the USA where there’ll be three more opponents waiting for us. Little by little, we’ll be getting fitter but we can’t relax because in August we have two official trophies at stake. I’ll keep on working hard to gain the manager’s trust and make my presence felt in this team, which is my objective.

So that’s the end of my blog. I’ve really enjoyed writing it and sharing all my thoughts and feelings with you.

Barcelona player Henrique gave an interview to Catalan sports paper Sport.

Where were you on 27 May 2009 on 20:45 pm?
At my home in Germany, watching the final, supporting Barça like a madman. I was very nervous, I felt part of that team. I was very happy at the end.

What impressed you most: winning the treble or the way in which it was won?
The way they did it was impressive, but what impressed me most was the quality of the whole group. You could see a cohesion among all of them that I have now also felt. It's one big family and you see that on the pitch.

You know Paris Hilton?
I'm very much a family man. I always stay at home with my family, I don't like to go out. I know who she is, but I didn't meet her.

The transfers of Madrid give you...
A lot of motivation. I'm living a dream and I won't start worrying about Madrid.

Who do Brazilians think will win the world cup?
Brazil, of course. But there are also other teams, like Spain, who can win the world cup.

What about the FIFA World Player and the Ballon d'Or?
Although I'm Brazilian, I can only admit that Messi is at this moment the best player in the world. There's nobody like him and there's no comparison possible.

It hurts that you are the only player of the squad that doesn't have a club cartoon?
No, that's not important for me. An official presentation would have been nice, but that cartoon doesn't affect me.

Michael Jackson: homicide or accident?
That's the question the whole world is thinking about. I don't know.

You knew Eto'o?
No, and it's a shame. I admire him a lot.

Which Brazilian team you dislike most?
As ex-Palmeiras player, the answer is obvious: Corinthians is like Real Madrid.

Some players who made their debut with Barcelona's first team on Friday spoke after the Tottenham game to Catalan radio station Catalunya Ràdio.

I felt comfortable out there, I was calm. I arrived last week and I'm getting to know my team-mates. I'm confident that I will keep on adapting step by step to the way of playing.

I'm happy that I'm here because it's really special to spend time with all these players. Before I went on, Guardiola encouraged me. He told me not to be nervous, to play and attack like I always do. I've always tried to make an attacking move, you have to try to grab your chances.

Barcelona central defender Henrique Adriano Buss (22) reflects on his experiences during his debut.

"Yesterday I was finally able to debut with the Barça shirt. I admit that at first I was a little nervous, but then little by little I began to calm and focus on the game. There were quite a few of the youngsters from the youth teams playing in the second half. I’d seen how good they were in training and they have a lot of quality and are very skillful.

I suffered a couple of heavy tackles that left their mark on my legs but that’s the way it is in football. Before the game, the boss gave us a few words about tactics and how we should play that were very useful. The most important was controlling possession and bringing the ball out from the back.

In Brasil they also work hard at bringing through youngsters - At Coritiba (the club I started at) and also at Palmeiras. Adriano (Sevilla), Rafinha (Schalke) and Alex (Fenerbahce) all started in the Coritiba youth set up, as well as Keirrison (as I explained the other day). In fact, I grew up in a system which was very similar to the one that works with the Barca youth teams and I hope that will help me to adapt more quickly.

We’ve been given the afternoon off to relax after training this morning, which was more about warming down after yesterday’s game than anything else. I think I’ll stay at the hotel and relax ahead of tomorrow’s game. I hope I won’t be so nervous ahead of the game against Al-Ahly – I know that the nerves will disappear as I keep playing more games.

Henrique, Fontas and Rueda on first team debut

Some players who made their debut with Barcelona's first team yesterday, commented after the Tottenham game to Barcelona's official website.

I was a bit nervous at the start, but I gained more confidence and I was able to calm down. There was some anxiety with my first few touches, but I will continue working.

The team has done well and we played the ball around well. For me it is easier to come out from the back with the ball. There is not a lot of difference to how Bayer Leverkusen played and I will work on my game.

The feeling is a good one. Playing in a stadium like that with a team like Barça... It was great. When you go out on to the pitch you forget about your nerves. We are happy with the way we played and it was a shame to concede a late goal, but a lot B team players appeared. It is great to play with so many good players.

It was a comfortable game. We all played 45 minutes each and I enjoyed that. It was a tough game, but we played well and we enjoyed playing in such a stadium and with the players we have.
